Architecture

“Like Bauhaus on heat,” is how master architect Robert Silke describes The Flamingo, his curvaceously sculpted nine-storey building that marvellously marries avante garde architecture of the twenties and thirties with the flamboyant tropical modernism of great coastal cities like Miami or Rio.

Celebrating the orientation of the site, 55 out of the 71 apartments are ingeniously arranged at a 45 degree angle to the grid, which not only provides privacy for each balcony but allows the floor-to-ceiling glass doors to frame world-class views of Lion’s Head. Many of the one-bed corner units have frontal views towards the Atlantic Ocean, and some feature super-sized porthole windows.
